To apply for a checking or savings account using online banking

  1. Select Products & offers from the top of the page.
  2. Choose Checking.

    2. When ready, select Open an account. Continue following the prompts on the page to submit your application.
  3. Choose Savings. When ready, select Start saving. Continue following the prompts on the page to submit the application.

To apply for a checking or savings account using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Open the main menu and choose Explore accounts & offers. 
  2. Select Checking, Standard savings, or Elite Money Market Account. Then choose Open an account/Start saving. Continue following the prompts on the page to submit the application.

Direct deposit is an easy, worry-free way to have automatic deposits electronically sent to your U.S. Bank checking or savings account. 

To set up direct deposit without sending a form, log into digital banking and we'll help you set it up. The process is similar to adding a linked external bank account to your dashboard to view.

To set up direct deposit using digital banking

  1. Online banking users:
    1. Select the account to have your funds deposited into.
    2. Choose Set up direct deposit, then select Set up now.

Mobile banking users: 

    1. Select the account to have your funds deposited into and choose Manage at the top of the screen.
    2. Scroll to the "Account Services" section and select Set up direct deposit. Then select Set up now.
  2. Choose your employer from one of the lists provided. If it's not there, use the search function to locate your employer.
  3. Log in with your employer or payroll provider.
  4. Review the details of your payroll distribution, then select Confirm.
  5. A confirmation page will appear, select Done to finalize the process.

Prefilled direct deposit form for consumer accounts

The prefilled direct deposit forms automatically have your account details, including a check copy with your personal information on it. This option is not available for business accounts.

To open a prefilled direct deposit form using online banking

  1. Select the account you'd like your direct deposit sent to.
  2. Choose Set up direct deposit.
  3. Select Download a prefilled PDF instead (found below the "Set up now" button).

To open a prefilled direct deposit form using the U.S Bank Mobile App

  1. Select the account you'd like your direct deposit sent to.
  2. Choose Manage at the top of the screen.
  3. Scroll and select Set up direct deposit.
  4. Select To do it manually, download a prefilled form here (found above the "Set up now" button).

We know life gets busy and reminders about transactions can be helpful. Manage your alerts anytime using digital banking. 

How to add or remove account alerts using online banking

  1. Choose an account from your dashboard then select the Account services tab.
  2. From the Alerts & notifications section select Account alerts.
  3. Select Account activity from the "Notifications" menu on the left. 
  4. Choose the tab that works best for you.
    • Quick setup: recommend alerts based on the account type.
    • All settings: All available alerts for the specific account.
  5. Select the chevron (>) to the left of the alert name to expand the details.
  6. Use the toggle buttons to turn the alert on or off on.
  7. You'll need to repeat these steps for each account. Select a different account from the drop down in the top right corner.

You can change your name on your account by visiting your local U.S. Bank branch or contacting us at 800-USBANKS (872-2657). We accept relay calls. 

You'll need an updated government issued ID or passport and legal name change documents to complete the process. Acceptable legal documentation includes:

  • Social Security card
  • Marriage certificate - A marriage license can't be accepted unless it's a combination license and certificate, or includes the marriage date, witness signatures, or a notary seal.
  • Divorce decree
  • Court document, including a seal, stamp, or signature of authority
  • Naturalization papers

Manage checking and savings.

We make viewing the last 18 months' worth of transactions easy and convenient. Right below the account's details you'll find: 

  • Pending and completed transactions, with descriptions and amounts.
    • Select the chevron (>) to open the "Transaction information" for more details.
  • Pending transactions appear first; then completed transactions are shown. 
  • The account balance after deducting transactions.

How to see your transactions details and history in online banking

  1. From the dashboard select the desired account to view your transactions.
  2. Choose View more transactions at the end of the list if you want to see more.

How to see your transactions details and history in the U.S. Bank Mobile App

By default, the mobile app will show the last 6 months of transaction history. Here's how to see up to 18 months of history. 

  1. Choose the desired account to view your transactions.
  2. Above your completed transactions on the right, select the magnifying glass. 
  3. Select Date, then choose Last 18 months.
  4. Next select the back arrow found in the upper left-hand corner, then choose See results.  
  5. Choose View more transactions at the end of the list if you want to see more.

More information

  • Use the Search option (magnifying glass) to enter a date range or search by keyword(s) to narrow down the results. This is helpful when looking for charges from a specific merchant, locating a specific check number, and more.

To view your full account and routing numbers using online banking 

  1. Select My Accounts at the top of the page and choose the account you'd like to view. 
  2. Under the Overview section the last four digits of your account number and the full routing number will display.
  3. Select Show to view the full account number.

To view your full account and routing numbers using the U.S. Bank Mobile App 

  1. Choose the account you'd like to view, then select the Manage tab at the top. 
  2. Under Account Details, select Account & routing number.
  3. Your account and routing number will be displayed in a pop-up window. 

Additional information

  • Your routing number is also located on the bottom of your checks. It's the first set of nine numbers, on the left, and starts with a "0", "1", "2", or "3".

Ordering checks or deposit slips using our digital banking services is easy and convenient. Checks are customizable, and we have many designs to choose from, ranging from the professional look to fun and outdoors. Choose the font style, the check design, add a monogram or symbol next to your name, or add an additional signature line.

Ordering checks and deposit slips in online banking

If you've previously ordered checks or deposit slips, begin your order by following these steps:

  1. Select your checking account from your Online Banking dashboard. 
  2. Click on Account services from the three options listed above your transactions list, then choose Checks.
  3. Verify the last four digits of the checking account. If they're correct, select Continue.
    • If you have more than one account, use the drop-down menu to change it. 
    • By selecting continue, you'll be redirected to our partner site, managed by Deluxe. 
  4. Select Personal products at the top of the page, then choose either checks or deposit tickets.
  5. Explore the designs available, then select the image of the one you want. It may take a moment for the next page to load. 
  6. Review the Check Imprint information. This is where your name, address, symbol, monogram, etc. can be entered or changed.  
    • If everything is correct and the way you like it, skip to the next step.
    • If it's wrong, update what's needed and select Save Changes. 
  7. Select Confirm and Next. A preview of the physical check will display. If everything is right on it, select Confirm and Checkout. 
  8. Your order summary will appear. If anything is incorrect, this is the last chance to make changes. 
  9. Enter your phone number, then select Place Your Order. 

Ordering checks and deposit slips in the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Open the main menu and select Help & services.
  2. Choose Order checks within the Account services section. 
  3. Choose the checking account you want checks for, then select Begin order. You'll be redirected to our partner site, managed by Deluxe. 
  4. Select Personal products at the top of the page, then choose either checks or deposit tickets.
  5. Explore the designs available, then select the image of the one you want. It may take a moment for the next screen to load. 
  6. Review the Check Imprint information. This is where your name, address, symbol, monogram, etc. can be entered or changed.
    • If it's correct, skip to the next step.
    • If it's wrong, update what's needed and select Save Changes.

We know it can be challenging when you're asked several times to review your information, and we appreciate you're patience. We ask for verification multiple times because if any information is wrong, or you missed a customizable detail you wanted, then you have the opportunity to fix it before the order is finalized. Once an order is finalized, no details can be changed. 

Items we recommend reviewing closely:

  • How your information is laid out on the check.
  • That your information on the check is accurate. 
  • The check design or deposit slip selected is the one you want.
  • Verify the shipping address is the right one.
  • That the payment information is correct and you're aware of the cost.

You can place a stop payment on a single check or a series of checks. Before doing so, please be aware:

  • Payments already in process or completed can't be stopped.
  • A stop payment doesn’t change any existing agreements you may have with the payee.
  • A one-time service fee applies to each stop payment request. The fee amount depends on the account type used in the transaction.
  • Cancelling a stop payment request can only be done by the account owner who placed it and does not refund the fee.

To place a stop payment using digital banking 

  1. Select the account with the check(s) you want to stop. 
  2. Online banking: Choose Account services, then choose Stop payments. 
    U.S. Bank Mobile App: Choose Manage, then select Stop payment.
  3. Select I used a paper check, then choose Continue. 
  4. Choose One check or Series of checks, enter the check information, then select Continue.
    • Optional: Select View disclosure for more information.
    • If the check has already cleared, you'll receive a message the stop payment can't be placed.
  5. Review the details, then select Agree & submit. 

Additional information

  • Stop payment requests are effective for 24 months.
  • A confirmation letter will be mailed to you once your stop payment is placed.
  • If the check is processing or already paid, the stop payment won’t be processed, and no fee will be charged.
  • Business customers with analyzed accounts will be charged a fee amount based on their account agreement. The specific fee amount will be disclosed on your analyzed account statement.
  • If you’d like to cancel a stop payment request, you can use digital banking, call us at 800-USBANKS (872-2657), or visit your local branch.

Send a domestic wire when it's convenient using digital banking. It may take a few minutes to enter the information. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to complete the transaction before the cut off time.

For most same-day wire transfers, the cut off time is 4:30 p.m. CT. This applies to incoming and outgoing wire transfers.

  • Same-day wires can be sent starting at 7:30 a.m. CT, except weekends and federal holidays.
  • If you schedule it for a future date, changes can be made until 11:59 p.m. CT, the day before it's sent.
  • Federal tax payments have an earlier cut-off time of 2:30 p.m. CT.

There's a fee of $30, which will be deducted from your account in a separate transaction when you complete the wire transfer.

Select Transfer & pay, then External transfers & wires. Select, Send a wire.

Send a wire using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

Select External transfers, wires & ACH, then Wire money. 

  1. Select an account to pay from.
  2. Enter the amount you'd like to send. Optional:
    • Select View all dollar limits to find out how much you can send in one day, or in a week.
    • To send it on a future date, use the calendar to select day you'd like to send it on.
  3. Tell us the purpose of sending the wire transfer.
  4. Optional: Enter any helpful reference information for the receiving bank, such as a loan or invoice number.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Choose Send to one-time recipient and complete the form to tell us who you're sending funds to. Then select Continue. You'll need the recipient's:
    • First and last name.
    • Street address.
    • City, state and ZIP code.
  7. Provide the recipient's bank information then select Continue.
    • Routing number.
    • Account number.
  8. Review all the information provided. If anything needs to be changed, select Edit next to it.
  9. Read the Wire Transfer Authorization*. If you agree to this, mark the checkbox and select Submit.

Bank has no duty to detect any mistake in the information you provide and shall not be liable for any resulting transfer errors or loss of funds in accordance with applicable law. Additional fees may be deducted from the transfer amount by other financial institutions involved in the payment process. You acknowledge the applicable funds transfer is subject to the rules set forth in Your Deposit Account Agreement. All transactions are subject to possible limitations under federal law and regulation, including possible restrictions under the rules issued by the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control. A wire transfer is irrevocable once payment has been transmitted to the beneficiary's bank, in accordance with applicable law. At your request, we may request the beneficiary's bank return funds previously transferred. However, you acknowledge the beneficiary's bank is under no obligation to comply with this request. By tapping checking the acknowledgement box and tapping "submit", you agree to the terms of the Authorization, and represent that you are authorized to initiate this wire transfer.

How to find your check and deposit slip images in digital banking

  1. Select the account associated with the check or deposit slip.
  2. Locate the transaction by using the search function or scrolling through the list.
  3. Once found, select the transaction to open it.
  4. Online banking:
    • An image of the front of the check or deposit slip will display.
    • Select View back or Print as desired.

U.S. Bank Mobile App:

  • Select View check. Scroll left or right to view the front and back.
  • Choose the share icon to locate the print option.

The search function can narrow your search and help find items older than six months. Select the magnifying glass above your transaction history to search by:

  • Merchant or transaction name
  • Date (custom dates ranges from up to seven years ago)
  • Amount
  • Category
  • Transaction type

Manage your debit card.

Activating your card is easier than ever. You can activate it by:

  • Logging into digital banking.
  • Calling 800-236-3838 to use our automated phone system.
  • Making a deposit or withdrawal at any U.S. Bank ATM.

Note: For your security, your PIN arrives separately from the physical debit card.

To activate your debit card using online banking

  1. Select your checking account from the dashboard.
  2. Choose Card controls, then Activate Card.
  3. Input the card information, then click Submit.

To activate your debit card using the U.S. Bank Mobile App 

  1. From the main menu select Manage cards.
  2. Select the card requiring activation.
  3. Select Activate Card.
  4. Input the required card information, then select Activate.
  5. Select Return to Card Management if you need to activate another card.

You can change the PIN for your personal or business ATM or debit card anytime. You'll need to have a registered cellular device (mobile number) and your old PIN to change it. Please note, a PIN needs to be four digits with no spaces and cannot be 0000 or 9999.

How to change your PIN using online banking

  1. Select your checking or savings account from the dashboard.
  2. Choose Card controls, then Select Reset debit PIN.
  3. Select the card you’d like to change the PIN for, then Continue.
    Note:     You may be asked for your previous PIN and/or to enter a one-time passcode.
  4. Enter your desired number, confirm it, then select Save PIN. 

How to change your PIN using the U.S. Bank Mobile App 

  1. Open the main menu, then choose Manage Cards. 
  2. Choose the card associated with the PIN, then scroll down and select Reset PIN.
    Note:     You may be asked for your previous PIN and/or to enter a one-time passcode
  3. Enter your desired number, confirm it, then select Save PIN.

  1. Choose your checking account from the dashboard.
  2. Select Card controls, then select Lock or unlock card.
  3. Choose your card if you have more than one.
  4. Select Lock card or Unlock card to change the status of the card.

How to unlock your debit card using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Open the main menu and select Manage cards.
  2. Choose the card and select Lock or unlock card.
  3. Select the toggle next to This card is unlocked or This card is locked, then select Done.

You cannot submit or ask for maintenance such as an address change while your card is in a locked status.

How to replace a debit card using online banking

  1. Select your checking account from the dashboard.
  2. Choose Card controls then select Order a new card.
  3. Select your card if you have more than one.
  4. Choose your reason for the replacement, then Continue.
  5. Lost, Stolen, or Never received: A new card number is issued.
    • New card design or Damaged: A new card with the same card number is issued.
    • An image of your debit card will display. Change to a new card design or keep the existing one, then choose Select this design.
  6. Review your address and the order details, if everything's correct, select Submit my order.

How to replace a debit card using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Open the main menu, choose Manage cards, then select the debit card to replace.
  2. Select Order a new card within the "Control" section, then choose the reason for the card replacement.
  3. An image of your debit card will display. Change to a new card design or keep the existing one, then select Next.
  4. Review the address and select Next.
  5. If your order details are correct, select Submit.

To dispute a transaction using online and mobile banking

  1. Choose the account the charge was made to.
  2. Select the disputed transaction to expand the details and choose Dispute this transaction.
  3. Answer the questions to help us determine the reason for your dispute, then select Continue to start your case. 

Additional information

If your case can be submitted through digital banking, you'll receive confirmation once the steps are completed.

If the dispute option doesn't appear or if you have any questions, call us at 800-USBANKS (872-2657) to speak with a banker.

If you'd prefer to contact us in writing regarding your dispute, please include the following in your letter. 

  • Your name, card number, address, and phone number.
  • The amount of the transaction and the date it posted.
  • The reason for the dispute and why you believe a mistake was made.

  1. From your account dashboard, select the checking account your debit card is associated with.  
  2. Select the Card controls option from the transaction section.
  3. Choose Lost or stolen card under "protect".  
  4. Select whether your card was lost, stolen, or never received.
  5. Choose the card(s) you'd like to close and replace, then select Continue.
  6. We'll lock your card(s); select Continue.
  7. Enter the date your card(s) went missing and select Continue.
  8. Next review the recent transactions. Choose:
    • Yes, continue if the transactions are yours. Then proceed to the next step.
    • No, I don't if you don't recognize them. You'll be directed to call the number on your screen to start a fraud case. 
  9. Choose to keep the same PIN or not and select Continue.
  10. Choose a new card design (if there's other design options available) or keep the same design. Then select Continue.
  11. Confirm your shipping details and select Continue if everything looks right. 
  12. Review the order details. if it's correct, select Replace card. 

Report your debit card as lost or stolen using the U.S. Bank Mobile App:

  1. From the main menu choose Manage cards, then choose the card(s) you'd like to close and replace,
  2. Select Report card lost or stolen (you may need to scroll to locate it).
  3. We'll lock your card(s); select Continue.
  4. Enter the date your card(s) went missing and select Continue.
  5. Next review the recent transactions. Choose:
    • Yes, continue if the transactions are yours. Then proceed to the next step.
    • No, I don't if you don't recognize them. You'll be directed to call the number on your screen to start a fraud case. 
  6. Choose to keep the same PIN or not and select Continue.
  7. Choose a new card design (if there's other design options available) or keep the same design. Then select Continue.
  8. Confirm your shipping details and select Continue if everything looks right. 
  9. Review the order details. if it's correct, select Replace card.

While waiting for your new card to arrive, a virtual copy is available in your digital banking. It can be used online, at the ATM or wherever contactless purchases can be made. Please see: How do I find my debit card number (virtual card)?

If you're traveling anywhere within the United States, there's no need to let us know. We'll continue to monitor your account for fraudulent activity. 

If you're traveling internationally and expect to make charges, let us know ahead of time through digital banking. You can:

  • Add the notification(s) as much as 90 days before your travel date.
  • Edit or delete notifications as many times as you'd like.

How to add travel notifications using Online banking

  1. Choose an account from your dashboard then select the Account services tab. 
  2. Select Travel notifications from under Alerts & notifications.
  3. Choose Add a trip or if there's a previously entered notification you want to modify, select Edit trip or Delete trip.
  4. Enter your trip details, then select Save.
    • Enter another country, then choose Add to include up to five destinations. 

How to add travel notifications using the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Open the main menu then select Manage cards.
  2. Select the card you'll be traveling with, then Travel notification.
  3. Select Add trip, or if there's a previously entered notification you want to modify, select Update trip or Delete trip.
  4. Enter your trip details, then select Save.
    • Select + Add destination to up to five countries.
